Be careful Ladies, this book will get you hot and bothered...in more ways than oneIf you read Stroke of Midnight by K. Webster, book one in this trilogy - which you should have done if you want to understand anything of what's happening in this book - then you know a bit of what to expect from Ash and Win. That is the great part about a trilogy - by the second book, you're well established in the world and you know something about the characters. In this case, Winston is your standoffish, controlling, but pretty sexy, Mr. Grey Billionaire type. He has (lots of) money. He knows he has money and he uses it to get everything he wants. In this case, he wants Ash - all the pieces of her that he can break off. Winston is not interested in love - or so he thinks - he is there to play a game and that's all. Ash is a fun character. She constantly puts Winston in his place with her sassy attitude. This whole thing started off as a way for Ash to save money for school and to get out of the dysfunctional and dangerous house she lives in. But by this second book, Ash is attached - head over heels for Winston in fact - despite knowing that he is not her saviour, he is not her white knight, he is not her Prince Charming. She is aware that there is no hope for a happy ending for the two of them, but when she glimpses those rare moments of vulnerability in Winston - when he does things that suggests he does care for her - she can't help the little glimmer of hope that rises in her chest. For Winston's part, we do see a slightly softer side of him in Prince Charming. We do catch glimpses of the protector, the hero we want him to be. But is it enough? This world of rich men who square off on each other, who use their money to control others, who use their money to indulge their kinks without remorse - this is definitely a NSFW world that Webster has created. It can be a bit difficult to read at times - unless you're into that sort of thing. And hey, absolutely no judgements from me - I happen to like it myself. You definitely feel for Ash as she goes from kind of hating Win to loving him - despite knowing there will be consequences to that, and as she deals with her horrible step family. This is not your typical Cinderella story - it is much darker, more heavy. It is an interesting take on the classic story though and I am enjoying these books, even if they are trying to break my naive HEA hopes in half. This second book, which starts off right where the last one ended, fits well into the trilogy and keeps the reader entranced. I need to keep reading to find out what happens. Will this fairy tale be completely turned upside down? Will Ash and Win get the happy ending, or is that just another game that the author is playing with us? I look forward to finding out. Thank you to the author and to CandiKanePR for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. PRINCE CHARMING (Cinderella #2) by K. Webster

I crave him so badly I think I might be losing my mind. He's right in front of me, but he’s just as remote as my dreams of getting away from my stepbrothers. I keep playing his twisted games, and I want to stay just as distant as he is. But I can’t. I never could. I’ve fallen for him. Hopelessly. Irrevocably. But Winston isn’t a lover, he’s a business venture. A way for me to pay for college. A ticket out. He’s never pretended to be anything other than that. I can’t blame him for making me fall in love. There can be no happily ever after between a maid and a prince, no matter what the stories say. About K. Webster: K Webster is a USA Today Bestselling author.
