My kind of sports romance - 4 Stars
You would think people would be tired of the familiar trope - shy and nerdy meets sexy athletic sporty guy and they fall for each other...but when it is written like this, who can resist?

Hotshot playboy and devilishly handsome hockey winger, Declan McAvoy is a big man on campus and I'm just the nerdy little sister of his teammate... or I was until I let it slip I had never been kissed.
With the NHL draft hanging over his head and my brother at his side—both on and off the ice, I'm afraid I'll be stuck in the friend-zone forever. The way I feel about Declan and his stormy grey eyes is anything but friendly.
He has secrets to keep and I have a story to write...
If we cross the line, complicated doesn't even begin to cover it.
He might be known as a callous player, but he's one player I'm willing to gamble on.
This is my year to draft to the NHL, and nothing can stand in my way... especially not a complication like kissing my teammate's little sister.
Poppy is beautiful, brilliant—and off limits.
For the first time in my life, I've found someone worth the risk, but she deserves better than keeping secrets and sneaking around behind her brother's back.
On the ice I have it all figured out, but when it comes to her... I'm all out of plays.
The stakes are higher than ever... and my heart isn't the only thing on the line.
She has an article to finish, and I have a pro-career to focus on.
Falling for Poppy could mean game over for both of us, but that won't stop me from wanting to make her mine.
Callous Player is third in this Westfall U hockey series and we get Declan's story, and his teammate's sister Poppy. Poppy is a shy and nerdy, never been kissed college freshman. She is looking desperately to break out of her shell because she needs to be a go-getter in order to succeed in journalism. Why on earth she would pick that as a career is beyond me - considering her awkwardness and shyness - but good for her.
Declan is the next hockey superstar, and doing an interview with Poppy for the university paper will be great for his career. But he has secrets he doesn't want anyone to know, especially some cute little reporter he can't seem to get out of his head. And the added complication of her being his teammate's sister? Forget it. At least that's what he tells himself at first.
I liked seeing Declan and Poppy's romantic journey. Poppy was sweet and reminded me of myself and seeing her slowly break down Declan's walls was cheer-worthy. And it was good to see a character like Declan who, on the surface is some hockey hotshot, but has so many more layers than what is expected. He really has the weight of the world on his shoulders, and it is sad to see, but I grew attached to the character because of it. A sweet and endearing hockey romance that you won't want to put down.
