A lot of tropes are packed into one punch of a novel, and I liked it.

Blurb:
The storm.
The man.

Both come without warning.

My heart opens to Cooper Haywood the moment we meet. How can it resist? He’s
charming, devastatingly handsome, and sweeps me off my feet before I realize the
impact he’s making. And then it’s too late.
We fall too fast to worry about the consequences.
We love so hard that we ache when we’re apart.

Even though I have a past that still haunts me and he has a future that could put us at
risk, none of that matters when we’re together.

Until it does.
And then everything changes.

Although the best thing he ever gave me now calls me Mommy, I can’t help but wonder
if Cooper Haywood and that fateful storm were one and the same.

My Review:

I love romances where fate plays a part, and characters are brought together despite obstacles in their path.  It makes me believe in a higher form of magic and the idea that true love conquers all.  In this novel by SL Scott, Story and Cooper fall hard and fast for each other, until Cooper's family interferes and breaks the young couple up.  But of course, when real love is felt, that doesn't just disappear, and so when circumstances bring them back together again, they have to decide if it is worth it to fight - to fight for what was lost, and for what still can be gained.

This was an emotional read that had me surrounded by wadded tissues at times.  But I loved reading about Cooper and Story.  Their love was touching and powerful and had me hoping for a happy ending.  If anyone deserved it, it was these two characters, who really are pulled through the trenches at times.  I liked Scott's writing style, and I think I will track down her other books and find some other couples to fall for.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
